Wow. FIRST time in years I have felt a warm welcoming vibe off all staff in a salon. From the phone call for appointment TO meeting for the first time the talented stylist Emma, who made me feel so relaxed and good in myself, as I was very nervous to have a restyle. I explained how I wanted my hair. Bear in mind THIS WAS the first time in years I have had my hair done, and didn't really know If I was explaining myself properly. Emma, BIG SHOUT OUT to you. You knew exactly what I wanted and needed. And for the lady who had so much patience with me, who made me feel so relaxed while washing and massaging my head, she had healing hands, I felt so relaxed, I nearly drifted off to sleep. Defo, having this salon as my regular now. Thank you all for a brilliant experience. I've already booked my 2nd appointment. There's no stopping me now.

Great salon, staff all very friendly and professional. Great quality cut and colour every time I’ve been. Not too expensive but not cheap either, however you get what you pay for and I think this salon is great value and I would highly recommend them.

Came here today for a cut and blow dry with Emma and I have to say it's the best hair cut Ive ever had. From booking the appointment to the finished cut I felt like I was looked after and Emma cut my exactly the way I asked her too. I went in with very dry bleach damaged hair and came out with shiny healthy hair in the most amazing style. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. This will definitely be my new regular salon.

Syer Hair & Beauty Salon – How It All Began

Syer Hair & Beauty Salon gets its name from Kenneth Syer who has enjoyed a long and prestigious career in the hair and beauty industry.

Kenneth began his career as an apprentice working at the Midland Hotel in Manchester in 1955. Employed by Steiner – now the largest and most renowned company that operates spas at sea – Kenneth became a skilled hairdresser, styling famous people including Shirley Bassey, Rita Hayworth, Petula Clark and Lady Barbirolli.

At the age of 24, he was made General Manager of Steiner UK and Maritime Division which operated spas on 14 ships including the QE2. Over the years, Kenneth helped open salons all over the world and was the motivator of many new ideas, including setting up the British Association of Professional Hairdressing Employers (now HEA).

In 1989 he made an offer to the Steiner organisation to purchase their salon in Gracechurch Shopping Centre, Sutton Coldfield. In 1991 the agreement with Steiner terminated and the name was changed to Syer. Syer retained all of the hair stylists including Georgina McDougall and Natalie Smith who are still part of the team.

Meanwhile, Kenneth’s daughter Kimberley was busy gaining invaluable salon experience managing 14 salons in London. In 1993 she moved to Sutton Coldfield and now runs the company while her father enjoys retirement, still holding the position of Managing Director.
